Live UFC 109 Results from Pro Fighting Fans

(EMAILWIRE.COM, February 04, 2010 ) Cleveland, OH - Following a lengthy span of over a month between major Pay Per View events since the airing of UFC 108 on January 2, the Ultimate Fighting Championship is set to kick off on Super bowl weekend with UFC 109: Relentless, which takes place this Saturday, February 6 from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. If you will be unable to order the Pay Per View on Saturday night, head over to ProFighting-fans.com and check out our live blog for live, round-by-round commentary of the entire main card as well as the UFC 109 fight results for every every bout on the fight card.

Although the UFC has been known for putting on the biggest and most spectacular mixed martial arts events of the last few years, UFC 109 marks the first time that two active UFC Hall of Fame inductees will lock horns inside the world famous Octagon. Featuring a main event pitting former UFC Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight Champion Randy “The Natural” Couture against former UFC Heavyweight Champion Mark “The Hammer” Coleman, UFC 109 promises to be a night to remember.

Since losing his heavyweight title for wrecking machine Brock Lesnar in November of 2008, Couture took a lengthy layoff in order to prioritize the remainder of his career, finally electing to move back down to 205lbs for another run at the belt currently held by undefeated Brazilian Lyoto Machida. In November of last year, Couture bounced back with a razor-thin decision victory over highly regarded light heavyweight contender Brandon Vera before signing on to face fellow MMA legend Mark Coleman.

For his part, Coleman bounced back from a disappointing TKO loss to top contender Mauricio “Shogun” Rua back in January of 2009 with a dominant three-round victory over Stephan Bonnar in an upset that surprised even the most hopeful of his fans. With a combined age of 91 years old, the Couture-Coleman main event should not only provide for a Fight of the Night candidate, but it could also send the winner that much closer to another shot at UFC gold.

Although nostalgia will be the overarching theme of Saturday night, the co-main event, which pits former top middleweight contender Nathan Marquardt against rising contender Chael Sonnen should be an explosive affair from start to finish as both men vie for a shot at the ever-elusive — and dominant — UFC Middleweight Champion, Anderson Silva. Since losing to Silva in July of 2007, Marquardt as established himself as the man many feel is most likely to dethrone “The Spider” with three consecutive knockout victories over top contenders. While he will be the favorite heading into his co-featured bout, Marquardt holds no illusions as to the toughness and fortitude that his opponent, Sonnen, will bring to the cage when the bell rings.

All in all UFC 109 is an event not to be missed, so if you can’t see it live, head on over to the #1 source for UFC news, ProFighting-fans.com, the night of the broadcast for complete coverage of the entire main card.
