August Rafting Conditions to be Outstanding on the Kern River

(EMAILWIRE.COM, July 28, 2010 ) WOFFORD HEIGHTS, CALIF- A winter and spring that brought well above average precipitation to the southern Sierra Nevada mountains is paying big dividends for rafting enthusiasts and outfitters. Southern California whitewater runs that typically play out by mid-August will have plenty of water into September this year.

Outfitters on the Kern River credit the exceptional water conditions for the increase they are seeing in late summer inquiries and reservations. The Lower Kern in particular is benefiting from El Nino conditions that produced a snowpack of 140% of average and will allow outfits to offer rafting trips past Labor Day this year.

"Our phones haven't let up since June" reports Dawn Jordan, reservations manager for Kern River Outfitters. "We've had guests come back two and three times to run the Kern this summer and we're going to be busy until September this year."

The Kern River is located in Sequoia National Forest, east of Bakersfield, California. There are four licensed outfitters on the Lower Kern offering half-day, one-day and overnight trips. Reservations are essential and trip space is limited to 30 guests. For more information on rafting the Kern River or to reserve your space, call Kern River Outfitters at 1-800-323-4234 or visit www.KernRafting.com.
