(Health-NewsWire.Net, October 08, 2015 ) Philadelphia, Pennsylvania -- According to The Morning Call Philadelphia police officers moved in on a heroin ring in Montgomery and Berks counties, and arrested five:Tyrig Darnell Coleman, 25, Martez Eric Cooper, 27, Khaleaf Quinton Lindsay, 19, Ryan Richard Conquest, 26, and Tyrek Waples, 20. The band of men were operating in small hotels, and contacting potential clients through a network of group messages, were they set up drug deals and gave information as to where illegal purchases would be made. Of the addictive substances sold, cocaine and heroin have been linked directly from this drug operation to Montgomery County.
Drug Rehab Philadelphia is an addiction treatment facility dedicated to rehabilitating people with untreated drug and alcohol use disorders. The treatment center asserts prevention education is crucial to prevent heroin rings from forming altogether. They assert because of the ages of those involved with the heroin ring, more could have been done to prevent their involvement with selling illicit substances if prevention education was more prevalent in communities.
Authorities launched the hasty investigation because of the number of heroin overdoses occurring in the beginning of the year. The Morning Call quotes District Attorney Kevin Steele, "Law enforcement is aware of the rise of opioid addiction, particularly among youth who first experiment with prescription pain medication and then opt for the often cheaper alternative of street heroin,"
An associate from Drug Rehab Philadelphia comments, "Among a survey of those arrested, and particularly Lindsay who is only 19, we assert prevention education is truly the only means to combat the growing opiate epidemic. And it's not only opiates, but the sale of illicit substances altogether. Young adults fail to understand the gravity addictive substances have on not only individuals, but entire communities. Those who grow up in neighborhoods with high crime and addiction rates are even more vulnerable to succumbing to addiction and high risk, illegal vocations.
"Re-vamping our prevention education efforts on a primary educational level is essential to prevent the development of future generations of people with substance use disorders and drug dealers."
